Christmas pies

Last night my friend Janice came over for some holiday baking fun. Of course, this comes after going to a cookie party and me baking a few cookies already for Colin's cookie jar. We may or may not have eaten this whole plate of cookies while baking more sugary treats. The theme of the night was pies.
I had peaches and cranberries in the freezer, so Janice opted for a tart fruit pie.I saw an amazing pumpkin pie recipe from Pioneer Woman. Typically, I don't like pumpkin pie, but fluffy cream and half and half? I can get into that.Just the sight of folding the whipping cream into the pumpkin custard was enough to make our arteries slow down a little. As if that weren't enough sugar & butter, we had four apples, which happens to the the exact amount needed for this French apple cake. So of course, we chopped it up.I also had fresh rosemary nearby, so we infused the butter for the cake with it. Did I mention I love butter? Now, when we put this cake batter in the mold, we were a little nervous about the end product. Look at it, it's more apple than cake. However, after baking, we were treated with a wonderful, moist cake. A cake to go with our side dish of pies, that is.This may or may not have been our dinner last night. And then Colin may or may not have spent the rest of the night doing this.Charlie loved being spoiled by so many people. It also helped that Janice probably smelled of cat.I think this is my favourite picture of Colin and Charlie. We had way too much sugar and felt sickly for the rest of the night.

Then I brought in the pies to work this morning and had a slice for breakfast.
